Victor Wembanyama rules out sports betting endorsements over personal values
Victor Wembanyama says he will not promote sports betting companies. The Spurs star explained that personal values and a positive influence matter more than endorsement income.

Victor Wembanyama has ruled out endorsing sports betting companies, telling reporters after San Antonio Spurs practice on Thursday that such partnerships do not fit his values. His comments, recorded in Spurs On SI's account of the third day of training camp, set out a firm position on how he intends to use his public profile.

Watch the highlights:

Asked whether he would consider a betting-company deal, Wembanyama rejected the idea and said he was disappointed to see other players promoting the industry. He acknowledged that others could make their own decisions. The San Antonio Express-News reported that he did not identify any particular player when expressing that criticism.

The decision does not mean Wembanyama is stepping away from commercial work. The Express-News listed Nike, Louis Vuitton, 2K Sports, Fanatics and hydration-drink brand Barcode among his existing partnerships. It also reported that he appears in advertisements for H-E-B, the supermarket company whose commercials have featured numerous Spurs players.

Explaining his approach in the remarks published by Spurs On SI, Wembanyama said financial rewards had mattered to him in the past but were no longer the deciding consideration. He said he had already declined opportunities worth more than the money he had earned because they conflicted with his values. He described the ability to influence people positively as more important than athletes' wealth.

His position contrasts with several prominent NBA players' commercial relationships. USA TODAY reported that LeBron James partnered with Polymarket after his DraftKings agreement expired, while Giannis Antetokounmpo acquired a passive stake of less than 1% in Kalshi in February 2026 and undertakes promotional work for it. The report also described a FanDuel partnership involving Boardroom, the media business co-founded by Kevin Durant, who appears in advertising.

Those relationships sit within a broader commercial presence for gambling around basketball: USA TODAY also noted the NBA's domestic and international betting and gaming partners. Wembanyama's announcement concerned his own endorsement choices, with his explanation centred on selecting companies whose messages and values he wants to support.
