Vasconcelos Century Leaves Northamptonshire in Command at Lancashire
Ricardo Vasconcelos hit exactly 100 as Northamptonshire dominated day three against Lancashire at Old Trafford. Lancashire closed on 24-2 and still require 422 runs with eight wickets remaining.

Northamptonshire took control of their County Championship Division Two match against Lancashire at Old Trafford, leaving the hosts 24-2 at the end of day three and needing another 422 runs to win. BBC Sport reported that Ricardo Vasconcelos made exactly 100 as the visitors declared their second innings on 298-4 after dismissing Lancashire for 137 earlier in the day.

Watch the highlights:

The morning session shifted the match sharply toward Northamptonshire. Lancashire resumed with eight first-innings wickets intact but lost all eight for 57 runs in less than 90 minutes. Keaton Jennings was dismissed for 37, while five wickets fell for 11 runs during the collapse. Ben Sanderson finished with 4-39 and Liam Guthrie took 3-51.

Lancashire narrowly cleared the follow-on mark of 135 before being bowled out for 137, giving Northamptonshire a first-innings lead of 147. Northamptonshire had made 284 in their opening innings and then chose to build a much larger advantage rather than enforce the follow-on. Their second innings advanced quickly after lunch.

Vasconcelos and Luke Procter shared 121 for the first wicket. Procter made 46, having earlier been dropped on 39, before Tom Bailey trapped him leg before on the stroke of tea. Vasconcelos reached his fourth century of the season from 126 balls with a single, then was caught at midwicket for exactly 100 five balls later. Noman Ali took both his wicket and that of Calvin Harrison, finishing with 2-109.

Saif Zaib accelerated the declaration with an unbeaten 55, while George Bartlett was 32 not out when Northamptonshire closed their innings after 64 overs. The resulting target was 446, leaving Lancashire with 11 overs to negotiate before stumps and a difficult final day ahead.

Northamptonshire struck twice before the close. Jennings fell for a duck after edging Sanderson, with the catch completed after Zaib parried the ball and substitute Louis Kimber gathered it. Marcus Harris also departed as Lancashire reached 24-2. With eight wickets standing, the hosts face a further 422 runs on day four, while Northamptonshire are positioned to press for the victory.
