How to Unlock the Duchess
To unlock the Duchess, a special quest item, the Ancient Pocket Watch, is required. This item is your reward for completing the Tricephalos Expedition for the first time. You don't need to defeat the Nightlord; participating in the expedition suffices, much like participating in a sports event without winning a medal.
Important Note: During our testing, the Ancient Pocket Watch only appeared in the inventory after a multiplayer match, not in solo rounds.
Once you have the watch, head to the Roundtable Hold and speak with the Priestess you met at the beginning of the game. She is located next to the Altar of Relic Rites. Show her the Pocket Watch by selecting the option "Show her the Pocket Watch." After a cutscene, the Duchess will be unlocked as a playable character.
