Trump beats Si Jiahui to book Shenzhen quarter-final against Selby
Judd Trump beat Si Jiahui 5-2 at the Shenzhen Open on Thursday to secure a quarter-final against Mark Selby. BBC Sport reported that the victory took Trump into the last eight of a ranking tournament for the 113th time in his career.
Watch the highlights:
Trump made breaks of 80, 71, 53 and 54, but an advertising-screen malfunction interrupted his concentration late in the match. According to the BBC, the screen flashed blue as he potted the yellow in the seventh frame after Si had missed it. Trump then cleared the remaining colours to finish the contest.
The match had been level at 2-2 before Trump won three consecutive frames. TNT Sports reported that the result extended his career head-to-head lead over Si to 10-1, with the Chinese player unable to add another frame after drawing level at the interval.
Selby advanced by beating Stephen Maguire 5-3, making a highest break of 99. The four-time world champion won the China Open in August, BBC Sport noted. His latest victory included an unusually high-scoring third frame: the results service Snooker.org recorded a 91-87 win for Selby, a combined total of 178 points.
Elsewhere, Wu Yize defeated Ricky Walden 5-3 and Shaun Murphy beat Elliot Slessor 5-1. Their quarter-final will repeat May's World Championship final, according to the BBC. Snooker.org's draw places the winner of that match against either Trump or Selby in the semi-finals, keeping all four players in the same half.
The other half saw Chris Wakelin eliminate Neil Robertson 5-2 and Jimmy Robertson defeat Scott Donaldson 5-0. Those results set up a Wakelin-Jimmy Robertson quarter-final. Michael Holt also won 5-2 against Kyren Wilson, while Yuan Sijun overcame Zak Surety by the same score to complete the last-eight line-up and book a meeting with Holt.
The quarter-finals are scheduled for Friday, October 2, at the Bao'an Sports Centre in Shenzhen. Snooker.org lists all four matches as best-of-nine-frame contests. The remaining players will then move to best-of-11 semi-finals on Saturday, with the title decided over a best-of-19 final on Sunday, October 4.
