Transfer Portal Shakeup: Wagner, Harris Lead Elite Talent Exodus
High-profile players including DJ Wagner and Juke Harris headline the 2026 college basketball transfer portal as the two-week window opens with significant movement.

The 2026 college basketball transfer portal officially opened Monday following Michigan's championship victory, triggering a massive player movement period that runs through April 21. The two-week window has already produced significant shakeups across major programs, with several high-profile athletes seeking new opportunities.

Arkansaw guard DJ Wagner headlines the notable departures, entering the portal for the second time in his collegiate career. The talented guard initially followed coach John Calipari from Kentucky to Arkansas but struggled with reduced playing time this season due to freshman sensation Darius Acuff's emergence. Wagner started every game during his first Arkansas campaign but managed just 19 starts in 35 games this season, averaging 7.4 points, 2.4 assists and 1.6 rebounds while shooting 42.9% from the field.

Wake Forest's prolific scorer Juke Harris represents another marquee name entering the portal after completing his sophomore season. Harris ranked 16th nationally in scoring with an impressive 21.4 points per game average, complemented by 6.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists. His explosive offensive ability makes him one of the most sought-after available talents, with major programs expected to pursue the dynamic guard aggressively.

Kansas suffered significant losses with both Flory Binduga and Bryson Tiller entering the portal. Binduga, a sophomore forward who led the Big 12 in blocks and field goal percentage while earning conference player honors, posted impressive numbers with 13.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.6 blocks on 64% shooting. Tiller contributed 7.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocks while starting 31 of 35 games for the Jayhawks.

Several other significant moves have already materialized. Syracuse forward Donnie Freeman, the sixth-ranked recruit in ESPN's Class of 2024, enters the portal despite new coach Gerry McNamara's arrival. Freeman averaged 16.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 23 games this season after missing extensive time due to injuries across two seasons.

Oregon junior Jackson Shelstad becomes one of the portal's most coveted point guards after averaging 15.6 points, 4.9 assists and 2.9 rebounds before suffering a season-ending hand injury. The 36th-ranked recruit from ESPN's Class of 2023 should attract significant interest from programs seeking veteran leadership.

Wisconsin guard John Blackwell announced his departure after career-high production, posting 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting nearly 39% from three-point range. Penn State freshman Kayden Mingo also enters the portal after an impressive debut campaign featuring 13.7 points, 4.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game.

Several programs have already secured transfers, with Syracuse landing former Siena standout Gavin Doty, who averaged 18.0 points and 6.9 rebounds while helping give top-seeded Duke a tournament scare. Xavier secured former LSU center Mike Nwoko, who averaged 13.4 points and 5.9 rebounds on 61% shooting.

The portal activity reflects college basketball's evolving landscape, where players increasingly seek optimal opportunities for playing time, exposure and development. With the window remaining open until April 21, expect continued movement as programs aggressively pursue available talent while players evaluate their best options for the upcoming season.
