Townsend and Siniakova complete career Grand Slam with US Open doubles title

Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova completed their career Grand Slam as a doubles partnership by winning the US Open women's title on Friday. The top seeds recovered from losing the opening set to defeat American wildcards Ashlyn Krueger and Robin Montgomery 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 in New York, BBC Sport reported.

The victory filled the last gap in the pair's collection of major titles. They had already won Wimbledon in 2024, the Australian Open in 2025 and the French Open earlier this year. AS reported that this was their fifth Grand Slam final together and their eighth title overall since beginning their partnership in Rome in 2024.

Siniakova and Townsend had reached the final without dropping a set, but three double faults from Siniakova in the opening set's last game put them behind. According to BBC Sport, they responded by winning 23 of the next 27 points after the second set's opening game. That turnaround took the match into a deciding set.

The favourites then built a 3-1 lead by consolidating an early break in the third set and completed the comeback. For Townsend, the result delivered a first US Open doubles championship. The American and her Czech partner had lost last year's final to Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe, leaving them to wait another year for their breakthrough together at Flushing Meadows.

Their route to this year's title match included a straight-sets semifinal victory over eighth seeds Elise Mertens and Diana Shnaider. The US Open's official report recorded a 6-0, 7-6(8) win on Wednesday, securing a second consecutive appearance in the final for the top seeds. Krueger and Montgomery also advanced on Wednesday to set up Friday's meeting with the tournament favourites.

BBC Sport reported that Siniakova's total of Grand Slam doubles titles now stands at 12. She also became the first player to complete a career doubles Slam with two different partners, having previously achieved the feat alongside Barbora Krejcikova. Friday's comeback therefore secured a shared milestone for the partnership and a separate record for Siniakova.
