Tottenham Sign Savio From Manchester City in £75m Deal

Tottenham Hotspur have signed Brazil winger Savio from Manchester City for an initial £75m, BBC Sport reported on Tuesday. The agreement could cost Spurs a further £10m in add-ons, and the 22-year-old has signed a long-term contract with the north London club. Tottenham confirmed he will wear the number 17 shirt.

The transfer also marks a change in the name the player will use. His full name is Savio Moreira de Oliveira, but he was known as Savinho during his two seasons at Manchester City after previously asking the club to retain the name used on his Brazil shirt. Tottenham introduced him as Savio, the name that will now appear on his shirt.

BBC Sport reported that Tottenham had tried to sign the winger last summer, when Thomas Frank was in charge, but he chose to remain at City. His playing time then declined during the following campaign under former City manager Pep Guardiola. Savio made seven Premier League starts last season and played 821 league minutes, recording one goal and one assist.

Savio leaves City after making 84 appearances across two seasons, with seven goals and 16 assists. He had joined the club from French side Troyes for £30.8m. Before that move, he spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Girona, scoring nine goals and supplying eight assists in La Liga while helping establish himself as a dangerous wide attacker.

His first Premier League season provided a larger creative return than his second. In 2024-25, Savio registered eight league assists, all from open play, in 1,773 minutes. BBC Sport's statistical analysis said only five players produced more open-play assists that season, while Savio ranked third on a per-90 basis and created 2.2 chances per 90 minutes.

The winger has won 13 caps for Brazil and scored once, although he was not selected for the country's World Cup squad. Tottenham head coach Roberto de Zerbi said the new signing offers energy, imagination and quality in wide areas, highlighting his willingness to attack defenders and his creativity. Savio joins a Spurs squad that has already undergone extensive recruitment this summer.
