Tottenham Reject Sunderland Loan Offer for Kevin Danso
Tottenham have turned down Sunderland's season-long loan offer for Austria defender Kevin Danso. His place in the Spurs squad is under pressure after two new center-back arrivals.

Tottenham Hotspur have rejected a season-long loan offer from Sunderland for defender Kevin Danso, according to BBC Sport. The report did not indicate that the clubs had agreed any terms or that a permanent transfer had been discussed. Sunderland's interest therefore remains unresolved, with Danso still part of Tottenham's squad as the summer transfer window approaches its close.

The 27-year-old Austria international made his first appearance of the season in Tottenham's Carabao Cup victory over Charlton Athletic on Wednesday. He entered as a substitute in the second half. It was his 37th appearance for Spurs, a total reached after joining the north London club from French side Lens during the 2025 winter transfer window.

Danso initially arrived from Lens on loan in January 2025. Tottenham made the move permanent later that year, paying the French club £20.9 million, BBC Sport reported. He had started nine of the 10 Premier League matches for which he was available during the closing months of the 2024-25 season and also appeared as a late substitute in Tottenham's Europa League final victory over Manchester United.

His route to regular minutes has become less clear following Tottenham's recruitment at center-back. The club added Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke, while Micky van de Ven signed a new contract and was appointed captain. BBC Sport reported that those developments are likely to limit Danso's first-team opportunities this season, although Tottenham's rejection of Sunderland's proposal means no loan exit has been approved.

It remains to be seen whether Sunderland will make another approach before the transfer deadline. The rejected offer establishes only that the club sought a season-long loan and Tottenham declined it; neither side has announced further negotiations. For now, Danso remains available to compete for selection after opening his season in the cup, while Sunderland must decide whether to renew its pursuit or consider other defensive options.
