Tottenham Leave Richarlison Out of Premier League Squad
Tottenham have omitted Richarlison from their Premier League squad for the first half of the season. The decision follows the collapse of a possible return to Everton before the transfer deadline.

Tottenham Hotspur have omitted Richarlison from their Premier League squad for the first half of the season, leaving the Brazil forward outside the group eligible for top-flight matches. BBC Sport reported the decision on Thursday, days after a possible return to Everton failed to go through before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

Watch the highlights:

Spurs manager Roberto de Zerbi said last week that Richarlison had asked to leave the club. According to the BBC report, Tottenham had told the player before the deadline that he did not feature in their plans for the season. The 29-year-old is now expected to leave in the coming days, with transfer windows in Turkey and Saudi Arabia still open.

Richarlison is in the final year of his Tottenham contract. He joined the north London club from Everton in the summer of 2022, four years after moving to Everton from Watford. The proposed Everton deal would therefore have taken him back to a club he represented before his switch to Spurs, but that move was not completed.

The forward was involved at the start of Tottenham's league campaign, starting their defeat by Brentford in the opening game. He was then absent from De Zerbi's squad for Saturday's 2-0 home loss to Newcastle United. After that match, the Tottenham manager again referred to Richarlison's desire to leave when asked about the striker's situation.

Tottenham have also added another option in the position by signing Manchester City striker Omar Marmoush on loan. Marmoush replaced Richarlison in the side against Newcastle. Earlier in August, De Zerbi had described Richarlison's future as uncertain while also acknowledging the difficulty of finding another striker with similar qualities.

The omission comes after Richarlison played a significant role in Tottenham's previous league season. He finished as the club's leading Premier League scorer with 11 goals from 32 appearances and supplied four assists. Tottenham ultimately secured survival on the final day, but the new squad decision means those contributions have not kept the Brazilian in the club's immediate top-flight plans.
