Maddison and Marmoush help Tottenham end winless start against Coventry
Tottenham beat Coventry 3-1 for their first Premier League win of the season. James Maddison, Omar Marmoush and Ben Davies scored as Dejan Kulusevski returned.

Tottenham earned their first Premier League victory of the season on Monday, beating Coventry City 3-1 at home after beginning the match bottom of the table. According to The Standard, the breakthrough came at the seventh attempt, with James Maddison, Omar Marmoush and Ben Davies supplying the goals for Roberto De Zerbi's team.

Watch the highlights:

Maddison opened the scoring in the 14th minute on his first start in 536 days. The Standard reported that the midfielder curled a first-time shot into the top corner against his boyhood club. His goal gave Tottenham the lead at the interval, although Micky van de Ven had to make a late intervention to stop Brandon Thomas-Asante before half-time.

Coventry equalised shortly after the restart through Jack Rudoni. The Standard described a move that began when Jan Paul van Hecke surrendered possession, allowing the visitors to counter. Rudoni's initial attempt was blocked by a teammate, but he recovered the ball and scored with his follow-up. Tottenham then responded, with Sandro Tonali sending two efforts over the bar.

Marmoush restored the home side's advantage before the hour mark. GOAL reported that Andy Robertson supplied the assist for the forward's first Tottenham goal following his summer move from Manchester City. The Guardian reported Coventry protested after Marmoush caught Milan van Ewijk with an elbow before scoring; the goal stood.

The closing stages also brought Dejan Kulusevski's return after 526 days away, with GOAL reporting that he received a loud welcome from the home crowd. De Zerbi introduced Mathys Tel as well, while Maddison left to a standing ovation. There were enforced changes too: Tosin Adarabioyo and Robertson went off, and Conor Gallagher, Mateus Fernandes and Davies were among those brought on.

Davies settled the result deep into added time with a low shot from outside the penalty area. GOAL put the goal in the 96th minute and reported that the victory lifted Tottenham to 16th place with six points. The late finish completed a three-scorer night for Spurs, turning a match that Coventry had briefly brought level into the hosts' first league win of the campaign.
