Tottenham beat Chelsea 2-0 as Penders own goal and Palmer red card prove costly
Tottenham won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge after a Mike Penders own goal and a late Mathys Tel strike. Cole Palmer was sent off between the goals.

Tottenham defeated Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, October 24, securing successive Premier League victories and moving into 12th place. AS reported that the result was Chelsea's first home league defeat of the season and Tottenham's first league win at the ground since 2018. Both goals arrived late in the second half.

Watch the highlights:

Chelsea had changed two players from the side that beat Everton, according to team news carried by Yahoo Sports. Mike Penders replaced the injured Emiliano Martinez in goal, while Geovany Quenda started with Joao Pedro absent from the squad. Penders had made his league debut as a substitute against Everton; this time he was entrusted with the start, with Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers also in Chelsea's attack.

Tottenham threatened before the interval without finding a breakthrough. Goal's match report, syndicated by Yardbarker, described Mohammed Kudus sending a curling attempt narrowly wide before Andy Robertson combined with Mathys Tel to create an opening for Omar Marmoush. Penders stopped the forward's close-range effort to keep the score level.

Antonin Kinsky also had important work to do at the other end. He denied Jordan Henderson and then Pedro Neto on the follow-up as Chelsea sought an opening before half-time. Neto tested him again after the break, but Tottenham's goalkeeper kept the hosts out as the match remained goalless.

The decisive mistake came in the 77th minute. Penders attempted to punch away a corner from Tottenham's left but instead sent the ball into his own net. A contest that had stayed level through several chances suddenly left Chelsea chasing an equaliser with little time remaining.

Their task became harder three minutes later when Palmer received a second yellow card for a foul on Conor Gallagher. Goal reported that his earlier caution followed a confrontation involving Mateus Fernandes. Chelsea were left to pursue the game with 10 players.

Tel settled the result in the 87th minute, carrying the ball forward from his own half before finishing from outside the penalty area. AS described the long run that produced Tottenham's second goal. Chelsea could not recover, while the visitors completed another league win with a clean sheet.
