Torp's Stunning Free-Kick Propels Coventry to Dramatic Victory Against Wrexham in EFL Trophy
Coventry City midfielder Viktor Torp scored a spectacular free-kick to give his side a 2-1 victory against Wrexham in their EFL Trophy quarterfinal clash at the Ricoh Arena.

Viktor Torp delivered a moment of magic that will live long in Coventry City folklore, smashing a thunderous free-kick into the top corner to secure a 2-1 victory against Wrexham in their EFL Trophy quarterfinal clash. The Danish midfielder's 73rd-minute strike proved decisive as Coventry progressed to the semifinals of the competition for the first time since 2018. The match at the Ricoh Arena saw Wrexham take an early lead through Paul Mullin's 15th-minute strike, only for Callum O'Hare to equalize 12 minutes later. Torp then produced his match-winning moment from 25 yards, curling the ball beyond diving Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo. "I saw the wall and thought I could go around it," Torp explained after the match. "The ball sat perfectly and I just trusted my technique. The net bulging was an incredible feeling." Coventry manager Mark Robins praised his midfielder's composure under pressure: "Viktor has been waiting for a moment like this all season. He's been training free-kicks obsessively and today it paid off spectacularly." Wrexham, owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, showed resilience but couldn't find an equalizer, with their 10-match unbeaten run in all competitions coming to an abrupt end. The victory sets up a semifinal tie against either Exeter City or Portsmouth, with Coventry aiming for their first EFL Trophy title since 2017.
