Titans erase 13-point deficit to beat Colts for first win of season
Tennessee earned its first victory of the NFL season with a 26-20 comeback against Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday, October 18. The Titans recovered from a 13-0 halftime deficit to improve to 1-5, while the Colts fell to 2-4. BBC Sport reported the result in its Week Six roundup, and both clubs detailed the turnaround in their official game reports.
Watch the highlights:
Indianapolis built its advantage during the second quarter after neither team scored in the first. Mo Alie-Cox supplied the opening touchdown, and Spencer Shrader converted field goals from 23 and 47 yards. According to the Colts' report, Cam Bynum's first interception of the season helped produce one of those kicks. Tennessee went into the interval without a point despite an earlier interception by safety Amani Hooker.
The Titans' kicking and return units helped reverse the game. Joey Slye made two third-quarter field goals before Chimere Dike's 58-yard punt return set up an eight-yard touchdown pass from Cam Ward to Carnell Tate. Tennessee then moved ahead when Femi Oladejo returned a blocked punt 14 yards for a touchdown, making the score 20-13 with 10:14 remaining.
Indianapolis still had a response. Jonathan Taylor scored on a four-yard run to bring the teams level with 5:32 left, ending Tennessee's run of 20 unanswered points. Slye restored the visitors' lead with a 49-yard field goal at the 2:03 mark and added another kick before the Titans stopped the Colts' final attempt to respond.
The Colts' account highlighted two interceptions thrown by Daniel Jones, taking his season total to six. Tennessee's defense finished with three takeaways and six sacks. Jeffery Simmons contributed two sacks and forced and recovered a fumble early in the third quarter, helping create the opportunity for Tennessee's first points after its scoreless opening half.
The result also gave Robert Saleh his first victory as Tennessee's head coach. In the locker room, Ward presented him with the game ball, according to Titans reporter Jim Wyatt. Tennessee will next host Cleveland, which beat Baltimore to join a three-way tie at 4-2 in the AFC North.
