Tiger Woods Arrested on DUI Charges Following Florida Car Accident
Golf legend Tiger Woods was arrested on DUI charges after his Land Rover rolled over near his Jupiter Island home in Florida, marking his second such arrest in recent years.

Golf icon Tiger Woods faces serious legal troubles after being arrested on driving under the influence charges following a rollover crash near his Jupiter Island residence in Florida on Friday afternoon.

The 15-time major champion was released from Martin County Jail later that evening after posting bail, adhering to Florida law requiring a minimum eight-hour detention period before release. Woods now faces multiple misdemeanor charges including DUI, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, the incident occurred when Woods attempted to overtake a work truck pulling a trailer at high speed on a two-lane road. The 50-year-old golf legend clipped the rear of the vehicle, causing his Land Rover to roll onto its driver's side.

Woods managed to crawl out through the passenger door before law enforcement officers arrived at the scene. Neither Woods nor the driver of the work truck sustained injuries in the collision, though both vehicles suffered significant damage.

Investigators conducted a breathalyzer test at the jail that returned negative results for alcohol consumption. However, authorities suspect Woods' impairment was related to drugs or prescription medications rather than alcohol. Woods declined to provide a urine sample for testing, an action that constitutes a separate offense under Florida statutes.

This marks the second time Woods has faced DUI-related charges, having been arrested in Jupiter, Florida in 2017. He subsequently pleaded guilty to reckless driving in that case, highlighting a troubling pattern of legal difficulties for the golf superstar.

U.S. President Donald Trump, a longtime friend of Woods, expressed concern about the incident during a press conference. Trump described Woods as "an amazing person" and "a very close friend," while acknowledging he had limited information about the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The arrest comes at a particularly challenging time in Woods' career. He had recently returned to competitive action, representing his Jupiter Links Golf Club in a TGL Finals match on Tuesday - his first appearance since missing the cut at the 2024 British Open. The timing raises questions about his participation in the upcoming Masters Tournament, which begins April 9 in Augusta.

Woods' extensive injury history spans more than two decades and includes multiple back surgeries, ACL reconstruction, Achilles tendon ruptures, and chronic knee problems. These physical challenges have significantly limited his competitive schedule in recent years and may have contributed to his reliance on pain medication.

The most serious incident in his recent history occurred in February 2021, when Woods suffered severe leg fractures in a car crash that nearly ended his career. His remarkable recovery and subsequent return to competitive golf demonstrated his resilience, making this latest setback particularly concerning for fans and fellow competitors.

Despite his current troubles, Woods remains one of golf's most accomplished figures. His 15 major championships trail only Jack Nicklaus' record of 18, while his 82 PGA Tour victories tie Sam Snead's all-time mark. Woods spent a record 683 weeks as world number one and achieved the unprecedented "Tiger Slam" by holding all four major titles simultaneously across the 2000-2001 seasons.

His most memorable achievement may be the 2000 U.S. Open victory at Pebble Beach, where he won by a record-setting 15 strokes. However, his 2019 Masters triumph stands as perhaps his greatest accomplishment, marking an extraordinary comeback after years of debilitating injuries and personal struggles had seemingly ended his championship aspirations.

The golf world now waits to see how these latest legal challenges will impact Woods' future both on and off the course. His representatives have not yet commented publicly on the incident or his legal strategy moving forward.

As Woods navigates this difficult period, his legacy as one of sport's greatest competitors remains intact, though questions about his personal well-being continue to overshadow his professional accomplishments.
