The Blaze beat Somerset to close on Women's One-Day Cup final

The Blaze moved closer to the Women's One-Day Cup final with a six-wicket victory over Somerset at Trent Bridge. BBC Sport reported that the Nottingham-based team, already winners of the T20 Blast and County Cup, now require one victory from their remaining two group matches to guarantee a place in the 19 September final on their home ground.

Somerset were bowled out for 192 despite captain Sophie Luff registering her fourth half-century of the 50-over season. Lucy Higham led The Blaze's bowling with figures of 4-28, while Grace Ballinger and Kirstie Gordon took two wickets apiece. In reply, Tammy Beaumont made 39 before unbeaten half-centuries from Sarah Bryce and Emma Jones completed the chase with 11.3 overs remaining. Bryce scored 54 from 65 balls and Jones added 53 from 44.

The result preserved The Blaze's five-point advantage over second-placed Hampshire. Their next fixture is a meeting with Hampshire in Southampton on Wednesday, with both teams already assured of knockout places. Somerset remain involved in the contest with Warwickshire for third position and a place in the eliminator scheduled for 16 September.

Hampshire kept pace by beating Yorkshire by seven wickets. Leg-spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington recorded a season-best 5-25 as Yorkshire were dismissed for 166, with Jess Jonassen contributing 64. Hampshire captain Georgia Adams then made 61 as her side reached the target with 11.5 overs to spare.

Surrey produced the day's largest total, making 344-7 before defeating Essex by 118 runs at Chelmsford. Priyanaz Chatterji scored 77 and shared a 103-run partnership from 69 balls with Phoebe Franklin, who made 43. Sune Luus added 67 and Bryony Smith 59. Essex were subsequently bowled out for 226, with Chatterji also claiming two wickets.

Reigning champions Lancashire earned their fifth consecutive win by edging Durham by three runs. Durham, chasing 169-8, were placed strongly after a 71-run fourth-wicket partnership between Hollie Armitage, who scored 54, and Bess Heath, who made 43. Kate Cross removed both batters and finished with 3-24 before defending nine runs in the final over.
