Supporters gather at Tenerife stadium as tributes grow for Jesús de Miguel
Supporters have left flowers, candles and football shirts outside Tenerife's stadium following the death of Jesús de Miguel. The club has arranged a public memorial for Saturday as tributes continue across the island.

Supporters have gathered outside Tenerife's Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium to honour Jesús de Miguel, with flowers, candles and football scarves surrounding gate nine following the striker's death. BBC Sport reported on Wednesday that hundreds of people had visited the ground over recent days, turning the stadium into a focus for the island's mourning.

Watch the highlights:

De Miguel, 30, died on Tuesday after a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during Monday's match. The BBC reported that he scored 11 goals in his first season at Tenerife, helping the club win promotion to Spain's second division. Photographs, children's drawings and tributes sent by other Spanish clubs were among the items left outside the ground.

The visitors included two holidaymakers from Stoke-on-Trent who had attended Monday's game and returned on Wednesday with a Port Vale shirt. Speaking to the BBC, they described their shock at the incident and explained that they wanted to show support for Tenerife's community. Local supporters also spoke about the forward's contribution to the club's recent recovery.

Tenerife have announced a public tribute at the stadium on Saturday, November 7, beginning at 18:00 local time. In their official statement, the club invited supporters to attend and confirmed six days of official mourning. Activities involving the first team, women's team and youth football have been suspended following the player's death.

The club also said the first-team squad, coaching staff and directors would attend De Miguel's burial in Navahermosa, Toledo. His family thanked those who had offered support and asked for their privacy to be respected. The announcement set out both the arrangements for the club's representation at the burial and the separate opportunity for supporters to gather in Tenerife.

Radio Televisión Canaria reported on Wednesday that the stadium gates would open at 16:00 for Saturday's memorial, two hours before the ceremony. Entry will be free, subject to capacity, and supporters have been advised to arrive early. The gathering will allow fans to pay their respects inside the ground where they watched De Miguel play, following the continuing tributes outside its gates.
