James Tavernier to Leave Rangers After 11 Years as Captain Eyes New Adventure
Rangers captain James Tavernier has announced he will leave the club at the end of the season after over a decade of service, bringing the curtain down on a memorable Ibrox career.
Watch the highlights:
The 33-year-old right-back joined Rangers from Wigan Athletic in 2015 and has been a mainstay in the side throughout his tenure, making over 400 appearances and lifting the prestigious armband. Tavernier departs as one of the most decorated players in the club's modern history.
During his time at Ibrox, Tavernier won two Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups, and three Scottish League Cups. He was instrumental in the 2021-22 season when Rangers completed an unbeaten league campaign and reached the Europa League final, coming agonizingly close to European glory against Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville.
Speaking to the club's official website, Tavernier said: "It has been an incredible privilege to serve this club for 11 years. I want to thank the fans, the staff, and every manager who believed in me. The supporters have been incredible throughout my journey here."
The full-back was part of the side that reached the 2008 UEFA Cup final and has been a model of consistency, rarely missing games through injury throughout his Rangers career. His departure leaves a significant gap in Philippe Clement's squad as the club looks to rebuild for next season.
Rangers Managing Director Stewart Robertson added: "James has been an exceptional servant to this club. His professionalism, leadership, and performances have set the standard. We wish him every success in the next chapter of his career."
