Swiatek Sails Past Snigur in Dominant clay-Court Display
World number one Iga Swiatek continues her clay-court dominance with a commanding straight-sets victory over Snigur at the Madrid Open.

World number one Iga Swiatek has showcased her irrepressible clay-court prowess once again, dismantling Snigur in straight sets at the Madrid Open with a performance that reminded the tennis world why she remains the dominant force on the surface. The Polish superstar required just 68 minutes to dispatch her opponent 6-2, 6-1, displaying the kind of clinical tennis that has defined her recent campaigns on red dirt.

The match was a masterclass in tactical tennis from Swiatek, who adapted her gameplan seamlessly to exploit Snigur's weaknesses while showcasing her own versatile repertoire. Her forehand, often described as the most powerful on tour, generated remarkable pace and spin, consistently pushing her opponent into defensive positions. The double-break in each set reflected her complete dominance from the baseline.

Swiatek's serve was particularly impressive, landing 78% of first serves in play and winning 85% of points when she did so. This precision limited Snigur's opportunities to attack and kept the Polish star in control throughout. Her movement around the court remained exceptional, allowing her to retrieve balls that would trouble lesser opponents and turn defence into offence with remarkable efficiency.

The victory extends Swiatek's remarkable winning streak on clay to 14 consecutive matches, a run that includes titles in Stuttgart and Rome last season. She has now won 23 of her last 24 sets on the surface, with the only dropped set coming in a controversial match against Osaka earlier this year. This form places her as the clear favourite for next month's French Open, where she will seek to defend her crown.

Snigur, despite the heavy defeat, showed flashes of promise with some powerful groundstrokes when given time to set up. The young Ukrainian will take valuable experience from the encounter against the world's best player. Swiatek faces either Fernandez or Putintseva in the next round, a matchup she will approach with her characteristic intensity as she continues her march toward another title.
