Swansea Sign Canada Midfielder Stephen Eustaquio From Porto

Swansea City have completed the signing of Canada midfielder Stephen Eustaquio from Porto for an undisclosed fee. BBC Sport reported that the deal is understood to be worth about £3.4 million, while the Championship club said the 29-year-old has agreed a two-year contract with an option for a further 12 months.

Eustaquio brings extensive experience from both club and international football. He has earned 61 caps for Canada and served as the national team's regular vice-captain. During the 2026 World Cup, he captained Canada for much of the tournament amid Alphonso Davies' fitness problems and scored the late winner against South Africa in the round of 32. It was his fifth international goal.

The midfielder had been with Porto since 2022. During that spell he helped the Portuguese club win multiple trophies, including two league titles, and appeared in the Champions League, Europa League and Club World Cup. He came off the bench in Porto's Primeira Liga match against Rio Ave earlier in August.

Eustaquio made 12 appearances for Porto in the first half of last season before joining Los Angeles FC on loan. His career began in Portugal with Torrense before spells at Leixoes and Chaves. He later played for Cruz Azul in Mexico, returned to Portugal with Pacos Ferreira and then moved to Porto. Born in Canada to Portuguese parents, he represented Portugal at under-21 level before choosing Canada at senior level.

Swansea head coach Vitor Matos described Eustaquio as an experienced leader with technical quality and a strong understanding of the game. Matos said the midfielder would complement Swansea's existing options and could become important both on and off the pitch.

The move is Swansea's sixth permanent signing of the summer window, following Stephen Welsh, Elijah Just, Joseph Opoku, Moussa Yeo and Ross Stewart. The club has also added left-back Tiago Parente on loan. Swansea had sought midfield reinforcements after selling Ethan Galbraith to Stoke and seeing Malick Yalcouye return to Brighton following his loan spell. BBC Sport reported that the Welsh club also remains interested in strengthening central defence before Tuesday's transfer deadline.
