Swansea winger Ronald ruled out for six to eight weeks with hamstring injury
Swansea City winger Ronald is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks with a hamstring injury, BBC Sport Wales reported on Thursday. The 25-year-old was injured during last weekend’s defeat by West Ham United, leaving the Championship leaders without a player who has scored twice in six appearances this season.
Watch the highlights:
Ronald completed the full 90 minutes against West Ham while filling in at right-back. According to BBC reporter Gareth Vincent, the recovery timetable could keep him out of as many as 10 matches. That remains a possibility rather than a confirmed number of absences, with the reported six-to-eight-week period setting out the expected length of his lay-off.
The injury interrupts Ronald’s return to head coach Vitor Matos’ plans after a proposed move to Millwall failed to go through before last month’s transfer deadline. Despite greater competition for places on the wing, he had contributed to Swansea’s strong start to the 2026-27 campaign. Matos highlighted both his goals from the bench and his work rate when discussing the setback.
The Swansea coach also praised Ronald’s display in an unfamiliar defensive position against West Ham, noting that he helped create the team’s final chance of the match. Matos said the club would draw on its squad while supporting the winger’s recovery. His comments recognised Ronald’s contribution this season without offering a more precise return date than the reported recovery window.
Swansea should have Filip Lissah available to return at right-back for Saturday’s trip to Queens Park Rangers, which kicks off at 15:00 BST. Lissah missed the West Ham match through suspension after collecting his fifth yellow card of the season. Josh Key, however, remains unavailable with a hamstring problem, leaving another player in that position out of contention.
Ronald’s absence could also provide an opening for Jeremy Monga, the teenage winger on loan from Manchester City. Monga has yet to feature in a matchday squad since joining Swansea last month. Matos acknowledged that an injury creates space for another player and said Monga was training well and becoming more accustomed to the club, but did not confirm his selection.
