Swanepoel and Singh Dismiss Lancashire for 180 at New Road

Beyers Swanepoel and Fateh Singh combined for seven wickets as Worcestershire dismissed Lancashire for 180 on the second day of their County Championship match at New Road. Worcestershire reached 12-1 from six overs in reply before bad light ended play, leaving them 168 runs behind with nine wickets standing.

The ECB Reporters' Network, in a report published by BBC Sport, said Lancashire were asked to bat on an overcast morning after the opening day had been lost to rain. Matty Hurst fell to Tom Taylor, while Matthew Waite and Swanepoel removed Josh Bohannon and Marcus Harris to reduce the visitors to 23-3.

Former Lancashire captain Keaton Jennings and Rocky Flintoff then added 37 for the fourth wicket. Flintoff made 23 before Singh removed him with Ben Allison taking the catch at first slip. Singh also dismissed Arav Shetty, and Jennings completed his sixth Championship half-century of the season before edging to second slip for 55.

Lancashire's position worsened around further rain delays. Swanepoel bowled George Balderson, and Allison trapped Nauman Ali lbw without scoring. Ben Walkden contributed 26, while Tom Bailey's 34 helped the final two wickets add 65 runs and lift the total to 180. Swanepoel finished with 4-37 and Singh returned 3-27.

Bailey then made an immediate impact with the ball, dismissing Worcestershire opener Dan Lategan four deliveries into the reply. Rehaan Edavalath edged later in the same over, but the chance did not carry to wicketkeeper Hurst. Edavalath and Jake Libby survived the remaining five overs before the light deteriorated.

Worcestershire collected three bowling bonus points, while Lancashire did not secure a point on the day. The hosts are scheduled to resume on Saturday with the match still in its first-innings phase after weather removed all of day one and interrupted day two. BBC Sport also noted that Swanepoel now has 28 Championship wickets from seven matches for Worcestershire this summer.
