Sussex Dominate Leicestershire as County Championship Returns

The County Championship burst back into action with a dramatic day of cricket that saw Sussex claim a comprehensive 222-run victory over Leicestershire, while several other fixtures concluded with hard-fought draws.

At Grace Road, Sussex's dominance was complete despite starting the season with a 12-point deduction. Their bowlers, led by Henry Crocombe's match figures of 9-69, dismantled Leicestershire's batting order to secure maximum points from their opening fixture. The visitors' total of 725 runs across both innings proved far too much for the home side to handle.

Sussex captain praised his team's resilience after the final wicket fell when Ben Green was caught by Hudson-Prentice off Crocombe's bowling. The standout performance in Division Two came at Lord's, where Middlesex claimed a comprehensive innings victory over Gloucestershire. Seb Morgan's four wickets and Ryan Higgins' three helped bowl out the visitors for 216 and 215, sealing victory by an innings and 14 runs.

New pitch regulations announced by The Cricketer magazine have added extra significance to home advantage this season. Teams preparing surfaces rated "below average, poor or unfit" will now lose all points from matches, with home teams credited with losses for tie-breaker purposes.
