Super League LIVE: Build-up intensifies for Warrington vs Wigan showdown
Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors are set to clash in what promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the Super League season so far, with both sides entering the match in impressive form. The traditional rivalry between these two founding clubs adds extra spice to an already compelling contest at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Watch the highlights:
Warrington go into the encounter sitting third in the table, having won four of their last five matches. Head coach Sam Burgess has praised his side's defensive improvements in recent weeks while acknowledging the challenge Wigan present.
"This is exactly the type of game our fans look forward to all season," Burgess said in his pre-match press conference. "Wigan are a quality outfit with serious threats across the park. We've prepared well but we know nothing less than our best will be good enough."
Wigan, currently occupying fourth place, have shown remarkable consistency on the road this campaign, winning three of their four away fixtures. The cherry and whites will be without talismanic half-back Bevan French, who misses out through injury, but coach Matt Peet remains confident in his squad's depth.
"Missing Bevan is a blow but it presents an opportunity for someone else to step up," Peet explained. "We've dealt with adversity before this season and responded well. This is a great occasion to test ourselves against one of the league's form teams."
The match kicks off at 8:00pm and is expected to attract a near-20,000 attendance, with police preparing for a large gathering of supporters from both clubs in what remains one of rugby league's most passionate rivalries.
