Sunday MLB Best Bets: Three NRFI and YRFI Wagers to Consider for April 12
With major league ballparks filling up on Sunday afternoons and marquee pitching matchups taking center stage, the NRFI and YRFI markets offer sharp bettors a chance to get ahead of the broader market. Here are three data-driven plays for today's 12-game slate.
Minnesota Twins at Toronto Blue Jays — Bet: YRFI The afternoon rubber match at Rogers Centre features a pair of right-handers with troubling first-inning track records. Taj Bradley has been sharp overall — a 1.08 ERA and 22 strikeouts against four walks across 16.2 innings this season — but current Blue Jays hitters have tagged him for a collective .271 average and .804 OPS in 61 career plate appearances. More concerning: Bradley logged a 5.33 ERA and .285 average with runners in scoring position last season.
On the other side, Max Scherzer, now in his 40s, has started 2026 respectably at 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA. But his advanced numbers suggest regression is coming — a 6.64 xERA, career-high 94.1 mph average exit velocity allowed, and a 17.4% barrel rate. Current Twins hitters have mashed Scherzer to the tune of a .324 average, 1.042 OPS, and 10 extra-base hits across 75 career plate appearances. Oh, and Scherzer posted a 12.96 ERA and .407 average against in opening frames last season. That is a lot of signal pointing toward runs early in Toronto.
Miami Marlins at Detroit Tigers — Bet: NRFI This interleague matinee features two of the American League's best arms and a setup that screams low-scoring start. Sandy Alcantara, the 2022 National League Cy Young winner, looks fully restored. Across 24.1 innings this season he has a 0.74 ERA, 0.58 WHIP, and has yet to surrender a home run. His 1.35 xERA, .156 xBA, and .186 xwOBA are all career-best marks. Current Tigers hitters own a .175 average and .439 OPS against him across 57 career plate appearances.
On the mound for Detroit, Tarik Skubal was last year's AL Cy Young winner and has picked up where he left off aside from one rough outing against Minnesota. At home since the start of 2024, Skubal has a 2.06 ERA and 0.87 WHIP. He was exceptional in opening innings last season — 1.45 ERA and .162 average against — and has surrendered just one first-inning run in his first three starts this year. The Marlins' .218 average and .283 wOBA against lefties this season is not equipped to break through early.
Chicago White Sox at Kansas City Royals — Bet: NRFI Neither offense has given bettors much to work with early in 2026. The White Sox have scored an MLB-low 43 runs. The Royals have managed only 49. This matchup pairs two promising young arms with the White Sox using Grant Taylor, a 23-year-old right-hander, as an opener for the third time in three starts. Taylor has thrown three consecutive scoreless first innings while holding opponents to a .100 average in that frame.
Noah Cameron counters for Kansas City coming off a strong rookie season. The lefty has a 1.69 ERA and 10 strikeouts against two walks across his first 10.2 innings, with zero home runs allowed. He has not permitted a first-inning run in either of his two opening frames this season. The White Sox's 33.1% strikeout rate against lefties and .187 average in that split makes this a fade worth backing early in Kansas City.
