Stokes and McKinney Power Durham to 338-Run Win at Derbyshire
Ben Stokes delivered with bat and ball as Durham completed a 338-run County Championship victory over Derbyshire inside three days at Derby. BBC Sport, carrying a report from the ECB Reporters' Network, said the Division Two leaders collected 20 points while Derbyshire took three from a match that ended with the hosts dismissed for 84 in their second innings.
Watch the highlights:
Durham began the day by finishing Derbyshire's first innings for 156. Matthew Potts led that effort with 5-46, removing Ben Aitchison and Anuj Dal during the morning session, while Brydon Carse and Stokes also contributed to the lower-order collapse. It was Potts' second five-wicket innings against Derbyshire this season after his 8-68 in Durham's June victory at Chester-le-Street.
The visitors then extended their advantage through Ben McKinney, who scored 140 from 162 balls. The 21-year-old opener struck 15 fours and six sixes and shared a 157-run second-wicket partnership with Will Rhodes, who made 52. Their stand followed captain Alex Lees' dismissal from the first ball of Durham's second innings.
Stokes accelerated the scoring later with an unbeaten 66 from 55 deliveries, reaching his second half-century of the match in 38 balls. England off-spinner Shoaib Bashir returned 3-77 before Durham declared on 295-6, leaving Derbyshire a target of 423. McKinney's innings was his second County Championship century of the summer.
Derbyshire's chase quickly unravelled against Potts and Stokes. After Carse dismissed Caleb Jewell, Potts trapped Harry Came and Wayne Madsen lbw within three balls and finished the innings with 3-22. Stokes struck with his first delivery, had Brooke Guest caught from a top-edged pull and then dismissed Dal with the next ball. Aitchison survived the hat-trick delivery but edged the following ball to first slip.
Stokes completed figures of 5-17 as Derbyshire were bowled out for 84, sealing what the BBC report identified as the heaviest defeat by runs in the county's history. Brett Randell retired after a second concussion check, having been hit by a Stokes bouncer. The emphatic result strengthened Durham's push for a return to Division One, while Potts moved to the top of the County Championship wicket-taking list.
