Steelers erase 13-point deficit to beat Buccaneers in overtime
Pittsburgh recovered from a 13-point deficit entering the fourth quarter to defeat Tampa Bay 26-19 in overtime at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday, October 18. The victory lifted the Steelers to 4-2 and gave them their first away win of the season, according to the team's match report. Tampa Bay fell to 1-5 after being unable to protect its lead.
Watch the highlights:
Aaron Rodgers delivered the decisive touchdown pass to rookie receiver Germie Bernard from six yards out with 3:15 remaining in overtime. Pittsburgh's opening possession of the extra period covered 70 yards in 12 plays and consumed six minutes and 45 seconds after the Buccaneers chose to kick off. Tampa Bay still had an opportunity to answer, but Jalen Ramsey sacked Jalon Daniels on fourth-and-eight with 1:06 left to end the game.
The route to overtime required a sustained fourth-quarter recovery. The scoring record published by Pro Football Reference shows Rodgers finding Darnell Washington for a five-yard touchdown before Chris Boswell added field goals from 39 and 58 yards to bring Pittsburgh level at 16-16. Boswell then converted from 20 yards with 1:21 remaining to put the visitors ahead for the first time.
Tampa Bay responded through Chase McLaughlin, whose 53-yard field goal with eight seconds left tied the score at 19-19. Earlier, McLaughlin had made kicks from 43, 47 and 33 yards, while Emeka Egbuka caught a two-yard touchdown pass from Daniels. The Buccaneers led 13-3 at halftime and extended that advantage in the third quarter before Pittsburgh's offense began its comeback.
The Buccaneers' official report credited Rodgers with 33 completions from 49 attempts for 253 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Bernard finished with 11 receptions for 87 yards and the winning score. Daniels completed 22 of 43 passes for 164 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions; Egbuka led Tampa Bay's receivers with seven catches for 48 yards.
Pittsburgh's victory also kept the AFC North tightly grouped. BBC Sport reported that the Steelers, Baltimore and Cleveland all finished Sunday's action at 4-2, with the Browns holding first place on a tiebreaker after beating the Ravens 13-10. For Pittsburgh, the turnaround in Tampa secured consecutive wins for the first time this season.
