St. John Paul II Stages Dramatic Sixth-Inning Rally to Edge Dennis-Yarmouth in Cape Cod Baseball Showdown
The Lions erupted for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a deficit and hand the Dolphins their first loss of the season, 6-5.

In one of the most thrilling high school baseball games of the young season on Cape Cod, St. John Paul II completed a stunning comeback to defeat Dennis-Yarmouth 6-5 on Monday, improving to an unblemished 5-0 record while handing the Dolphins their first loss at 5-1.

The decisive moment came in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Lions mounted a relentless rally, scoring all six of their runs to flip the game entirely. The comeback punctuated what had been a tense, pitcher’s duel throughout the first five frames.

Offensively, the Lions were paced by a trio of multi-hit performances at the top of the order. Henry Roy went 2-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI, while Logan Our also finished 2-for-3, crossing the plate once and driving in two runs. Ryan Amerault contributed a 2-for-4 day with a run scored and an RBI. Brandon Gomes, Domenic Toto, Luke Souza, and Cash Finn each logged hits in the winning effort.

On the mound, Souza earned his first career varsity win after pitching two shutout innings in relief, surrendering just two hits while striking out two batters. Roy locked it down from there, walking two but striking out the final two batters to record the save.

For Dennis-Yarmouth, Ben Rondina had a standout day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. RJ Delcourt crossed home and drove in two runs, while John Richard delivered an extra-base hit, scoring once with one RBI and swiping three bases.

Elsewhere across the Cape Cod and Islands league on Monday, several other games shaped the early-season standings. Bourne evened its record at 2-2 with a 10-4 win over Nantucket (5-3), as Tucker Muldoon pitched six scoreless innings with four strikeouts and also hit a two-run triple. Sturgis also moved to 2-2 with a 14-6 victory over Bristol Aggie, powered by Hunter Mayo’s 4-for-5 performance with two doubles.

Diman handed Upper Cape its first loss in a tight 2-1 game, with Devyn Shultze scattering four hits over a complete-game effort, striking out eight. Falmouth climbed above .500 at 3-2 by knocking off Division 1 New Bedford 5-2, as Trey Cardoza fanned nine batters across five innings of one-run ball.

In other action, Monomoy earned its first win of the season, beating Cape Tech 12-2 to move to 1-4. Nauset improved to 4-1 with a comeback win over Cape Tech, scoring eight runs in a pivotal second inning. Sandwich stayed hot at 4-2 by routing Falmouth 19-0, with Mia Consalvi hitting for the cycle and Sofie Farrington striking out 11 batters.

The Sharks of Monomoy also shined in softball, remaining perfect at 5-0 with a 23-1 win over Sturgis, while Barnstable’s boys volleyball team continued its dominant start at 7-0 following a straight-sets sweep of Millis/Holliston-Medway.

Boys lacrosse saw Dennis-Yarmouth’s Teddy Angiolillo reach a major career milestone, scoring his 100th career goal in an impressive 17-10 win over Cape Cod Academy.
