South Sumter Raiders Load 2026 Schedule as Florida Powerhouse Eyes Deep Postseason Run

The South Sumter Raiders are wasting no time establishing their ambitions for the 2026 campaign. The North Suncoast program unveiled its full slate this week, featuring a mix of established rivals and fresh challenges that head coach Ty Lawrence hopes will sharpen his squad into a legitimate state-title contender.

The Raiders are no strangers to postseason football. Year in and year out, South Sumter consistently earns its place in the Florida High School Athletic Association playoffs, and the 2026 outlook suggests more of the same — perhaps even better.

The schedule opens with a tough preseason test on August 14, as South Sumter travels to Zephyrhills for a 7 p.m. kickoff in the Preseason Classic. From there, the Raiders face a demanding stretch that includes marquee matchups against Wiregrass Ranch, Leesburg, and Eustis, all formidable opponents from within the region.

"We built this schedule to prepare us for the moments that matter," Lawrence noted in announcing the slate. "Every game is an opportunity to get better. We're not hiding from anyone."

Leading the charge will be quarterback Milo Patterson, who returns behind center after a standout 2025 season in which he threw for 930 yards and 10 touchdowns. Patterson's poise and arm strength made him a reliable floor-general for the Raiders offense, and his continued development will be central to whatever success 2026 brings.

His top target will again be wide receiver Kobe Bailey, who hauled in 268 yards and a touchdown last fall. Bailey's speed and reliable hands give Patterson a go-to option when the offense needs a catalyst, and the connection between the two could be a difference-maker in tight district contests.

The full 2026 South Sumter football schedule runs from August 14 through October 30, with notable home dates against Wiregrass Ranch, East Ridge, Leesburg, Eustis, and Villages Charter School. Road tests at Zephyrhills, Williston, St. Cloud, Nature Coast Tech, Tavares, and South Lake round out what promises to be a grueling and rewarding slate.

In the final Florida 2025 High School Football Massey Rankings, South Sumter finished 6-5 and ranked No. 124 in the state — a respectable foundation, but one the program clearly intends to build upon.

With Patterson's experience under center and a favorable home-heavy schedule in the second half of the season, the Raiders have every reason to believe a deeper playoff run is within reach. The North Suncoast has long been a proving ground for college prospects, and the 2026 Raiders may add another chapter to that legacy.
