South Carolina Bulldogs Complete Sweep of Missouri Tigers in Weekend Baseball Series
COLUMBIA, Mo. — South Carolina put the finishing touches on a statement weekend in Columbia, completing a three-game sweep of Missouri with a 6-4 victory on Saturday. The star of the finale was Dawson Harman, who entered the game with just one home run on the season but finished with two in the span of three innings.
Harman got the Gamecocks on the board early, delivering a two-run single in the second inning to set the tone. He was not done there. A solo shot to right field in the fourth gave South Carolina breathing room, and his sixth-inning homer to left capped a remarkable 3-for-4 afternoon at the plate. KJ Scobey also went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, providing additional pop from the middle of the order. Ethan Lizama added a pair of hits and Patrick Evans chipped in a double.
On the mound, Alex Valentin gave South Carolina four solid innings, allowing two runs on one hit while striking out five. Cooper Parks navigated three scoreless frames to pick up the win, and Alex Philpott closed things out for his third save. One night earlier, Amp Phillips had been dominant on the mound, striking out 10 batters over eight shutout innings in a 1-0 Gamecocks win.
In the most dramatic game of the weekend across college baseball, No. 6 North Carolina needed 14 innings to get past Clemson 6-4 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Tar Heels twice rallied from deficits, scoring in both the eighth and ninth innings to force extra innings. The decisive moment came in the top of the 14th when a dropped fly ball loaded the bases with one out. Tyler Howe followed with a squeeze bunt that brought one run home, and a throwing error by the pitcher allowed a second unearned run to score.
Jacob Jarrell collected two hits including a solo homer and drew two walks for Clemson, while Tyler Lichtenberger and Jack Crighton each had two hits. Michael Sharman pitched five innings of two-run ball with six strikeouts, but Dylan Harrison took the loss after allowing two unearned runs in 2¼ innings of relief.
College of Charleston continues to find its stride, tying a program record with 10 stolen bases in a 6-4 win over North Carolina A&T. Five runs in the fifth inning proved decisive as the Cougars secured their fourth consecutive victory. Landon Penfield drove in a run and scored twice, while Reece Holbrook contributed two walks and two RBIs. Jace Stancil struck out seven over five innings to earn the win.
