Sooryavanshi, 15, Becomes Fastest to 1,000 T20 Runs After Blistering 36-Ball Century
Indian teenager Sooryavanshi, aged just 15, smashed a 36-ball century and became the fastest player ever to reach 1,000 T20 runs, marking a stunning emergence in youth cricket.

Indian cricket has produced another precocious talent as Sooryavanshi, a mere 15 years old, announced his arrival on the domestic circuit with a breathtaking 36-ball century that rewrote the record books. The teenager's feat, achieved during a T20 match on Sunday, saw him become the fastest player ever to reach 1,000 runs in the format's history, accomplishing the milestone in just 27 innings.

The innings was a display of mature shot-making beyond his years. Sooryavanshi's 100 came up with a mixture of conventional drives and unorthodox ramp shots that left opposition bowlers bewildered. He reached his fifty in just 18 balls, then accelerated to bring up his century with six consecutive boundaries in the final over of the powerplay.

"I grew up watching players like AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli," Sooryavanshi said after the match. "My father used to bowl to me for hours every evening, and I always visualized myself in these situations. But to actually live it is something I cannot describe."

Former India U19 coach Rajinder Singh, who has mentored several international stars, was present at the ground and couldn't hide his excitement. "In thirty years of coaching, I have seen perhaps three or four players with this kind of hand-eye coordination at such a young age," Singh remarked. "The pressure situations he faces down, the clarity of thought—he plays like someone who has been doing this for a decade."

The achievement puts Sooryavanshi ahead of established stars in the race to 1,000 T20 runs. The previous record belonged to Jonathan Carter, who needed 31 innings when he set the mark in 2019. Cricket historians note that even legends like Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum required far more attempts to reach the milestone.

Sooryavanshi's explosive form comes at a pivotal time, with several IPL franchises believed to be tracking his progress. While he remains under the age threshold for the tournament's direct signing rules, franchises can secure future rights through the underage player list introduced in 2024.

Scouts from multiple franchises were present at Sunday's match, though officials declined to comment on specific interest. The teenager's domestic team has announced he will be given opportunities in higher-tier tournaments as his development continues."I see IPL in my future, but not tomorrow," he said with a maturity belying his age. "I want to master first-class cricket, understand the nuances of the longer game. T20 is fun, but I want to build something lasting."
