Somerset Move Top After Innings Victory Over Glamorgan

Somerset moved to the top of the County Championship after overpowering Glamorgan in little more than two and a half sessions. The Guardian's county cricket roundup reported that the victory, achieved by an innings, put Lewis Gregory's side in position to pursue the first Championship title in Somerset's history.

The win was built on contributions throughout the team rather than a single dominant performance. Five Somerset bowlers took wickets, with none claiming more than five, while six batters reached at least 41. Tom Lammonby led the scoring with 95 as Somerset compiled the total that placed Glamorgan under decisive pressure.

Nottinghamshire, who had led the table, were unable to match Somerset's result after rain and determined lower-order resistance helped Leicestershire secure a draw. Jack Haynes and Liam Patterson-White made centuries in a sixth-wicket partnership of 257 for Nottinghamshire, but Josh Hull responded with 97 after arriving as a nightwatchman. Tom Scriven reached 50 and No. 11 Josh Davey finished one run short of his own half-century as the last pair protected the draw. The result left Nottinghamshire four points behind Somerset.

Elsewhere in Division One, Sussex beat Essex by 47 runs to stop their slide down the standings. Henry Crocombe completed a hat-trick for the second consecutive match, while James Coles scored 79 in Sussex's second innings and returned match figures of seven for 105. Essex fell to seventh following the defeat.

Surrey also earned an important win over Yorkshire in a match shaped by the threat of relegation. Josh Blake, selected amid a lengthy list of unavailable Surrey players, batted for more than four and a half hours to finish unbeaten on 43. Dan Worrall then scored the winning runs off Ben Coad after Blake had survived the final over from George Hill.

In Division Two, leaders Durham maintained their unbeaten season by dismissing Northamptonshire for 50 while defending a target of 204. Callum Parkinson took six for 20 with the new ball, and Durham's record moved to eight wins and three draws from 11 matches. Kent rose into the second promotion position by beating Worcestershire, with Sam Northeast making 132 before Worcestershire fell short in a chase of 380.
