Somerset confirm Migael Pretorius return across all formats for 2027
Migael Pretorius will return to Somerset for a fourth summer in 2027, with the South African all-rounder available across all formats.

Somerset have confirmed that Migael Pretorius will return for the 2027 season, with the South African all-rounder available for selection in every format throughout the summer. The agreement brings the 31-year-old back to Taunton for a fourth consecutive campaign, extending an association that began in 2024.

Watch the highlights:

The club's announcement puts Pretorius's Somerset record at 40 appearances, 1,127 runs and 106 wickets. His highest score is an unbeaten 95, while his best bowling figures are five for 64. He was also part of the squad that won the T20 Blast in 2025, giving the county another season with a member of that trophy-winning group.

Pretorius's first summer provides a measure of how his role has developed. According to Somerset's earlier announcement of his 2026 contract, he scored 324 runs and took 23 wickets in eight County Championship matches during 2024. His initial contribution therefore came in the longer format before the broader involvement described by the club in subsequent seasons.

In 2025, Somerset said he made 12 appearances across the three formats, contributing 240 runs and 33 wickets. That campaign included a significant performance in the Blast semi-final: he took three for 27 and added 12 runs from three balls. Somerset went on to lift the trophy for the second time in three years, a success Pretorius has cited when discussing his future at the club.

In the new announcement, Pretorius said the welcome he had received had helped make Somerset a second home for his family. He expressed a desire to repay the support shown by the club and its followers. Having enjoyed the 2025 title, he said he hoped to be involved in another trophy-winning season in 2027.

Director of cricket Andy Hurry said Pretorius had become important to the squad away from matches as well as during them. He credited the all-rounder with embracing Somerset's culture and influencing games with both batting and bowling. Hurry expects that experience to strengthen the county's options across its squads when Pretorius returns next summer.
