Skupski and Harrison beat top seeds to reach US Open doubles final
Neal Skupski and Christian Harrison reached the US Open men's doubles final by defeating top seeds Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. BBC Sport reported that the British-American partnership completed the semi-final victory in one hour and 23 minutes, maintaining their run through the tournament without losing a set.
Watch the highlights:
The first set was settled by a tie-break before Skupski and Harrison took the second by a four-game margin. In comments reported by the BBC, Skupski said that their opponents had beaten them in earlier meetings this year, and said the pair knew they needed to raise their level for the semi-final.
The victory followed another straight-sets win over a higher-seeded team. According to the US Open's official quarter-final report, fifth seeds Harrison and Skupski defeated fourth seeds Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori 6-3, 6-2 in Arthur Ashe Stadium. That result set up their meeting with the tournament's leading seeds and put them one match away from the final.
Patten and Heliovaara had reached the semi-finals after a much longer quarter-final contest. The tournament reported that they overcame Guido Andreozzi and Manuel Guinard 6-7 (7-9), 7-6 (7-3), 6-2. The British-Finnish team entered New York with three Grand Slam doubles titles together, including this year's Wimbledon championship, but their US Open campaign ended against Harrison and Skupski.
Harrison and Skupski already have a major title as partners, having won the Australian Open earlier this year. Skupski also won the Wimbledon men's doubles title with Wesley Koolhof in 2023. The Liverpool-born player, 36, is seeking his third men's doubles Grand Slam trophy and fifth major title overall, BBC Sport reported.
The result gives Skupski another opportunity at Flushing Meadows after last year's final defeat alongside Joe Salisbury. The ATP's tournament guide records that Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos saved three championship points against the British pair before taking the 2025 title. The 2026 men's doubles final is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, with Harrison now partnering Skupski for his latest attempt to win the tournament.
