Shreyas Iyer hits unbeaten 102 as India beat West Indies by eight wickets
Shreyas Iyer struck 102 not out from 43 balls as India chased down 172 in Lucknow. Naman Dhir took three wickets before Iyer and Ishan Kishan completed an unbeaten stand of 137.

Shreyas Iyer scored an unbeaten 102 from 43 balls as India defeated West Indies by eight wickets in the first Twenty20 international in Lucknow on Tuesday. According to BBC Sport's scorecard, India reached 172 for two in 14.4 overs after dismissing the visitors for 171, completing the chase with 32 deliveries remaining.

Iyer, who captained India, hit 10 fours and six sixes in an innings that accounted for most of the winning total. He shared an unbroken third-wicket partnership of 137 with Ishan Kishan, who finished on 37 from 27 balls with five boundaries. Neither batter was dismissed after they came together with India 35 for two in the fourth over.

West Indies had removed both openers early in the reply. Abhishek Sharma made 21 from 10 deliveries before Shimron Hetmyer caught him off Roston Chase, leaving India 29 for one. Sanju Samson then fell for 11, caught and bowled by Akeal Hosein. Those proved to be the only wickets the visitors took, with Iyer and Kishan carrying India through the rest of the chase.

Earlier, India won the toss and chose to field at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. West Indies slipped to 44 for three before Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford added 63 for the fourth wicket. Hope scored 52 from 37 balls, including six fours and two sixes, before being caught by Axar Patel off Naman Dhir.

Rutherford top-scored for West Indies with 56 from 34 deliveries, hitting six fours and three sixes. His innings continued after Hope's dismissal as wickets fell around him, and he was eventually caught by Dhir off Mayank Yadav with the total on 171. Hosein, who contributed 15, was the final batter dismissed as the innings ended after 19.1 overs.

Dhir returned India's best bowling figures with three for 31 from four overs, removing Hope, Romario Shepherd and Shamar Springer. Patel and Kuldeep Yadav each took two wickets, while Arshdeep Singh and Mayank Yadav claimed one apiece. Iyer also contributed in the field, running out Hetmyer for five before leading India's successful pursuit with the bat.
