Shai Hope hits unbeaten 162 as West Indies complete record ODI chase
West Indies chased down 352 with five wickets and 10 balls to spare in New Chandigarh, although India won the ODI series 2-1.

Shai Hope's unbeaten 162 carried West Indies to a five-wicket victory over India in the third one-day international in New Chandigarh on Saturday. The visitors reached 352-5 in 48.2 overs, with Cricket West Indies confirming they completed the chase with 10 balls remaining after India had posted 351-7 from their 50 overs.

Watch the highlights:

The ICC reported that this was West Indies' highest successful ODI chase, surpassing their 331-5 against Ireland in 2019. Hope also set a national men's record for an individual score in a successful chase, passing Brian Lara's 153 against Pakistan in Sharjah in 1993. His innings therefore brought both team and personal milestones.

Hope received important support from Amir Jangoo, who made 67 and shared a second-wicket stand of 111 after Mohammed Siraj dismissed John Campbell. The Indian Express reported that Jangoo's run-out ended that partnership, but Hope remained to guide the innings. Sherfane Rutherford contributed 24 and Keemo Paul added 44 as West Indies continued their pursuit.

The closing overs still required a substantial acceleration. According to the ICC, the required rate had climbed to 11.2 an over after 45 overs before Hope attacked again, reaching 150 in the 48th. Gudakesh Motie finished unbeaten on 19. The Indian Express reported that the pair struck eight boundaries in 14 deliveries during the late surge that turned the chase decisively.

India's total had been built around KL Rahul's unbeaten 129 from 87 balls and Rohit Sharma's 92. Jayden Seales removed Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli from consecutive deliveries early in the innings, forcing the hosts to rebuild. Rahul provided the late acceleration, while Seales finished with 3-62, according to the Indian Express score summary. Those contributions gave India a sizeable total but not a winning one.

India nevertheless finished the three-match series as 2-1 winners, having secured the contest before the final ODI. West Indies' victory prevented a clean sweep and ended the one-day leg with a successful record chase. The ICC confirmed that the teams next move to a five-match Twenty20 international series, beginning in Lucknow on October 6.
