Shadab century and last-wicket stand lift Pakistan past England in Lahore
Pakistan beat England by one wicket in Lahore after Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf added an unbeaten 89 for the final wicket in their ODI tri-series match. Shadab finished on 113 not out from 96 balls, turning a chase that had reached 154-9 into victory with 17 deliveries remaining, according to BBC Sport.
Watch the highlights:
England had been dismissed for 241 in 46.4 overs despite Ben Duckett's 105 from 111 balls. Sky Sports' report, carried by Mansfield Radio, described the innings as Duckett's third ODI century. Shaheen Shah Afridi took 4-46, ensuring the opener's hundred did not carry England to a larger total. Duckett's contribution accounted for almost half of England's runs.
England then threatened to defend that score through Jamie Overton, who returned figures of 3-43. BBC Sport reported that he delivered his full allocation of 10 overs in a single spell. Shadab had arrived with Pakistan already six wickets down for 103, and the hosts subsequently lost three more wickets before the partnership that decided the contest.
The decisive reprieve came with Shadab on 97 and Pakistan still needing 21. Given out lbw to Gus Atkinson, he requested a review after players had begun shaking hands. Television technology detected an inside edge, overturning the decision. Instead of a completed England victory, the match continued with Pakistan's final pair still together and Shadab within reach of his century.
Rauf remained unbeaten on seven from 19 deliveries while Shadab controlled most of the strike. The winning shot came from Rauf, who struck debutant Henry Crocombe for four to take Pakistan to 243-9 after 47.1 overs. Sky Sports reported that the partnership set an ODI record for a successful last-wicket chase and secured Pakistan a place in the tri-series final.
England have now lost all three of their matches in the competition. The defeat follows Thursday's loss to Sri Lanka, who chased 430. England's next match is against Sri Lanka on Thursday, but their prospects depend on an earlier result: BBC Sport reported that a Sri Lanka victory over Pakistan on Tuesday would confirm England's elimination before that final group fixture.
