Sergio Perez extends Cadillac contract through 2029
Sergio Perez has signed a multi-year extension to remain with Cadillac until 2029, BBC Sport reports. The agreement comes ahead of his expected 300th Grand Prix start in Mexico City, with the team still seeking its first points.

Sergio Perez has signed a multi-year contract extension that will keep him with Cadillac until 2029, BBC Sport reported. The agreement extends the Mexican driver's involvement with the American Formula One team beyond its debut season, during which neither Perez nor team-mate Valtteri Bottas has yet scored a championship point.

Watch the highlights:

Perez, 36, joined Cadillac last August ahead of the team's first season on the grid. He is due to make his 300th Grand Prix start at his home race in Mexico City this weekend, according to the BBC. The contract announcement therefore comes just before a career milestone for a driver who first competed in Formula One in 2011.

The results so far have been modest. Perez is bottom of the 2026 drivers' standings, and his best finishes this season have been three 14th places, achieved in Barcelona, at Silverstone and in Azerbaijan. Bottas has also gone without points, leaving both of Cadillac's experienced drivers still looking for a scoring result in the team's first campaign.

In comments carried by BBC Sport, Perez said his decision to stay followed naturally from the belief in the project that had prompted him to join at the beginning. He described establishing a Formula One team as a process requiring sustained effort, time and patience. Although he found the progress rewarding, he acknowledged that considerable work remained and said he was committed to the next three years.

Perez brings six Grand Prix victories to that work. Five came while he was racing for Red Bull between 2021 and 2024, with the other secured for Racing Point, now Aston Martin, in 2020. His strongest championship finishes also came at Red Bull: third in 2022 and runner-up to team-mate Max Verstappen in 2023.

That spell ended when Red Bull dropped him after the 2024 season despite two years remaining on his contract. According to the BBC, the team believed he had exhausted his opportunity to demonstrate that he could support Verstappen. His new agreement with Cadillac confirms a longer-term place with the American team as its point-scoring breakthrough remains outstanding.
