Scottie Scheffler Wins Second FedEx Cup Title in Atlanta

Scottie Scheffler won the Tour Championship in Atlanta on Sunday, closing with a four-under-par 66 to claim his second FedEx Cup title. The world number one finished at 16 under, three shots clear of Viktor Hovland, after beginning the final round three strokes behind the Norwegian overnight leader.

BBC Sport reported that Scheffler’s 66 was the only below-par score produced by a player in the final three pairings. His round carried him to a 22nd PGA Tour victory and secured the $10 million winner’s prize at the season-ending event.

Hovland’s challenge faded with a two-over 72, leaving him second at 13 under. American Tour Championship debutant Ryan Gerard also shot 72 and took third place on 12 under, one shot behind Hovland. Scheffler’s six-shot swing against the overnight leader turned a three-stroke deficit into a decisive margin.

Rory McIlroy finished among a seven-player group tied for fourth at 11 under. His final-round 69 included four birdies and an eagle but also five bogeys. Russell Henley, Min Woo Lee, Jacob Bridgeman, Chris Gotterup and Alex Fitzpatrick joined McIlroy on that score.

Fitzpatrick matched Scheffler’s 66 to climb the leaderboard on his Tour Championship debut. BBC Sport also reported that Justin Rose made a hole-in-one at the ninth, although the Englishman could not turn that moment into a sustained charge and completed the tournament at seven under. Tommy Fleetwood was among four players tied at 10 under, while Collin Morikawa ended at nine under. Fitzpatrick’s result capped a season in which he won the Indian Open and partnered his brother Matt to victory at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans pairs event.

The victory adds Scheffler to a short list of multiple FedEx Cup winners. He also won in 2024 and now joins Tiger Woods, the champion in 2007 and 2009, and McIlroy, who won in 2016, 2019 and 2022. Scheffler’s closing round separated him from a crowded field on the final day and delivered another season-ending title two years after his first.
