Scotland Women Cruise Past Netherlands to Level ODI Series

Scotland’s women beat the Netherlands by nine wickets in Stirling on Monday, levelling their one-day international series at 1-1 with one match remaining. BBC Sport reported that Scotland reached 130-1 in 16.2 overs after holding the visitors to 129-9 from the rain-reduced allocation of 32 overs.

The match had originally been scheduled for Sunday but was moved after weather intervened. When play began, Scotland quickly established control with the ball. Darcy Carter removed Netherlands openers Phebe Molkenboer and Sanya Khurana, the pair who had shared a stand of more than 150 in the previous week’s meeting.

Abtaha Maqsood then struck twice in quick succession as the Netherlands slipped to 39-4. She later added a third wicket to finish with 3-20, while Carter returned 2-18. Babette de Leede provided the main resistance for the visitors, making 58 before she was run out, and Caroline de Lange contributed 20. Those efforts helped the Netherlands reach 129-9.

Scotland’s chase suffered an immediate setback when Maryam Faisal was dismissed after four balls. It proved to be the only wicket the Netherlands claimed. Sarah Bryce, captaining in the absence of her sister Kathryn, took charge of the innings and shared an unbroken partnership with Carter to complete the target comfortably.

Bryce finished unbeaten on 70 and Carter made 33 not out. Bryce sealed the result with her 11th boundary, having also taken two catches as wicketkeeper earlier in the match. The Netherlands also conceded 17 wides across Scotland’s 16.2-over chase, adding to the pressure on their bowlers.

The result followed a similarly decisive opening match, which the Netherlands won by 58 runs in Glasgow on Friday. With the teams now holding one victory each, the third ODI at the same Stirling venue on Tuesday will determine the series winner.
