Savinho scores on Tottenham debut in 5-1 Carabao Cup win

Savinho scored 11 minutes into his Tottenham debut as Spurs swept past Charlton Athletic 5-1 in the Carabao Cup. The Guardian reported that the £75 million signing from Manchester City came off the bench with Tottenham already three goals ahead and quickly added the fourth at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Mikey Moore opened the scoring with a powerful left-footed shot from the edge of the penalty area. Dominic Solanke doubled the advantage before halftime, finishing into the bottom corner after Charlton failed to clear a bouncing ball and Lucas Bergvall had an effort blocked. The goals rewarded Tottenham after a quiet opening in which Charlton had created chances of their own.

Kevin Danso made it 3-0 after the interval with his first touch, heading in Mateus Fernandes' free kick. Danso needed treatment after being caught in the aerial challenge, delaying Savinho's introduction, but the Brazilian made an immediate impression once he entered. He moved inside from the right and drove a low shot into the near corner for his first Tottenham goal.

Savinho was also involved in the fifth. He beat defenders on the right and shot after cutting toward goal, with the ball striking teammate Ben Davies before going in. The goal was credited to Davies. Charlton substitute Lloyd Jones later headed home from a corner to provide the visitors' only goal of the night.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi restored several players who had only been fit enough for the bench in the team's 3-0 loss at Brentford. Destiny Udogie, Rodrigo Bentancur, Fernandes and Solanke all started, while Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven returned as substitutes after missing the Brentford match. Charlton manager Nathan Jones made 10 changes from the side that had beaten West Ham.

The result sent Tottenham through to a next-round meeting with Liverpool at Anfield. It also delivered an important home victory after Spurs managed only four wins over domestic opponents at their stadium in the previous season, according to The Guardian. With no European fixtures this campaign, the Carabao Cup offers De Zerbi's side an early route toward a sustained cup run.
