Sarina Wiegman extends England contract through Euro 2029
Sarina Wiegman has agreed a two-year extension as England women's manager. The deal runs through Euro 2029, with World Cup qualification still her immediate priority.

Sarina Wiegman has signed a two-year extension to remain England women's manager until the end of Euro 2029, BBC Sport reported on Monday. Her previous contract was due to finish after the 2027 World Cup, so the agreement keeps her in charge for another European Championship campaign.

The 56-year-old said her immediate focus remained securing England's place at next year's World Cup in Brazil. The Lionesses must overcome Ukraine in a two-legged play-off to qualify. Wiegman welcomed the opportunity to continue working with the squad and said helping the players fulfil their potential remained central to her plans.

England reached that tie after two victories over Greece. The team's official results list records a 3-1 away win on 9 October followed by a 5-0 home victory at Leicester's King Power Stadium on 13 October. Those results produced an 8-1 aggregate success, taking England through the first round of the qualification play-offs and into the next stage.

Wiegman began work with England in September 2021 and has since overseen two European titles and a World Cup final appearance. England Football's official coaching profile records the Lionesses' first major title at Euro 2022 on home soil, followed by the successful defence in Switzerland in 2025. Between those triumphs, England lost 1-0 to Spain in the 2023 World Cup final.

Her international record also includes leading the Netherlands to the European title in 2017 and the World Cup final in 2019, according to England Football. The latest agreement follows an earlier extension announced in January 2024, which had secured her services through the 2027 World Cup. That deal covered the 2025 European Championship defence as well as the subsequent World Cup cycle.

FA chief executive Mark Bullingham backed Wiegman to lead England into the next two tournaments, BBC Sport reported. He highlighted her record in major competitions and her wider influence on English football, while saying she remained focused on the future. The new contract settles her longer-term position before England have completed the qualification process for their next global tournament.
