Saif Zaib joins Hampshire on multi-year deal after Northamptonshire title win
Hampshire have signed batting all-rounder Saif Zaib on a multi-year contract following his departure from Northamptonshire. The club announced the deal on 30 October, bringing in the 28-year-old after 13 seasons with Northants. BBC Sport also reported the move, which follows a summer in which Zaib helped his former county win the T20 Blast.

The switch takes Zaib to the side Northamptonshire defeated in that final. Hampshire's announcement confirmed that the Steelbacks beat Hampshire Hawks by 14 runs at Edgbaston to secure the 2026 title. Zaib said he was ready for a change after his long association with Northamptonshire and wanted to contribute to victories in matches and tournaments with his new club.
Returning Hampshire to Division One is among his stated aims. BBC Sport reported that Hampshire were relegated from the County Championship's top division last season, their first relegation since earning promotion in 2014. Zaib described Hampshire as ambitious and competitive, and said their strength in white-ball cricket was another reason he looked forward to joining the squad.
His recent first-class record is a significant part of the signing. According to Hampshire, Zaib led the County Championship run charts in 2025 with 1,425 runs, including six centuries and seven half-centuries. His highest score was an unbeaten 196 against Kent. Across the past two years, the club said he had accumulated 2,281 first-class runs at an average of 54 and taken 16 wickets at 33 apiece.
Hampshire director of cricket Giles White highlighted both that sustained Championship production and Zaib's versatility, saying he would strengthen the squad in red-ball and white-ball competitions. The club's announcement credited Zaib with more than 1,600 T20 Blast runs at a strike rate of 146.45, alongside eight half-centuries. He has also taken 21 wickets in the competition at an economy rate of eight runs per over.
Zaib came through the Buckinghamshire pathway and made his Northamptonshire debut at 16 in 2014. He also played twice for Southern Brave in the 2026 Hundred, after earlier spells with Welsh Fire and Northern Superchargers. Hampshire described his new contract as a multi-year agreement but did not specify its length in the announcement.
