Ryland kicks six field goals as Cardinals stun Rams 18-16
Chad Ryland kicked six field goals, including the winner as time expired, as the Arizona Cardinals beat the Los Angeles Rams 18-16 in NFL week six. According to BBC Sport's report, Ryland scored every Arizona point and set a personal best for field goals in a game, sending the Rams to the bottom of the NFC West.
Watch the highlights:
The finish overturned a Los Angeles lead established with just 47 seconds remaining. Colby Parkinson scored a touchdown and punter Ethan Evans converted the extra point to put the Rams ahead. Arizona still had time to respond, however, and Ryland's final kick secured the victory after Los Angeles had appeared close to escaping with a win.
The Rams had been forced to change kickers during the game. Blake Grupe, signed from the New York Jets' practice squad after Harrison Mevis was released on Tuesday, opened the scoring with a field goal. He then injured a knee while making a tackle on the ensuing kick-off, leaving Evans to take over kicking duties later in the contest.
Arizona improved to 2-4, with both victories this season coming at SoFi Stadium. The Cardinals also beat the Los Angeles Chargers there in week one. After winning only three games last season, they moved above the Rams in a division that also contains the unbeaten San Francisco 49ers and defending champions Seattle Seahawks, BBC Sport reported.
For Los Angeles, the defeat followed an overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills the previous Monday. The Rams had entered the season as Super Bowl favourites but had already been displaced in that position by San Francisco before facing Arizona. Head coach Sean McVay took responsibility for finding a way out of the team's difficulties after another game slipped away late.
Elsewhere, the Kansas City Chiefs remained unbeaten with a 22-6 victory over the Chargers. Kenneth Walker rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns, while Patrick Mahomes reached 100 regular-season wins in his 131st start, matching Tom Brady's record. Kansas City moved to 5-0, in contrast to the Chargers, whose sixth defeat left them still searching for their first win.
