Ryland kicks six field goals as Cardinals stun Rams 18-16
Chad Ryland scored all 18 Arizona points and delivered the winning field goal as time expired. The defeat dropped the Rams to the bottom of the NFC West.

Chad Ryland kicked six field goals, including the winner as time expired, to give the Arizona Cardinals an 18-16 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. According to BBC Sport's Ben Collins, Ryland scored every Arizona point as the Cardinals moved above their opponents in the NFC West.

Watch the highlights:

The finish overturned a Rams lead established with just 47 seconds remaining. Colby Parkinson's touchdown had put Los Angeles in position to go ahead, with punter Ethan Evans converting the extra point while covering kicking duties. Arizona still had time to respond, and Ryland's career-best sixth field goal settled the game without the Cardinals needing a touchdown.

Los Angeles had been forced into that kicking arrangement after another setback on special teams. The Rams released Harrison Mevis on Tuesday and brought in Blake Grupe from the New York Jets' practice squad. Grupe opened the scoring with a field goal against Arizona, but injured a knee while making a tackle on the subsequent kick-off, leaving Evans to take over.

The defeat followed the Rams' overtime loss to Buffalo the previous Monday and left them bottom of a division that also includes unbeaten San Francisco and defending champions Seattle. Head coach Sean McVay accepted responsibility afterwards, saying the effort to find a solution had to begin with him. His team had entered the season as Super Bowl favourites, according to BBC Sport.

Arizona improved to 2-4, with both victories coming at SoFi Stadium. The Cardinals also beat the Los Angeles Chargers there in week one. After winning only three games last season, they have now collected two this year, with Sunday's result also changing their position relative to the Rams in the divisional standings.

Elsewhere, Kansas City maintained its unbeaten start by defeating the Chargers 22-6. Patrick Mahomes earned his 100th regular-season victory in his 131st start, matching Tom Brady's record, while Kenneth Walker rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns. The Chiefs joined Minnesota at 5-0; San Francisco, also unbeaten through five games, was scheduled to host Washington on Monday night.
