Ryland kicks Cardinals past Rams as Chiefs stay unbeaten in NFL week six
Chad Ryland kicked all of Arizona’s points, including the deciding field goal as time expired, as the Cardinals beat the Los Angeles Rams 18-16 in NFL week six. According to BBC Sport’s report by Ben Collins, Ryland’s six field goals set a career high and lifted Arizona above the Rams in the NFC West. The Cardinals improved to 2-4, leaving Los Angeles at the bottom of the division.
Watch the highlights:
The Rams had changed kickers during the week, releasing Harrison Mevis and bringing in Blake Grupe from the New York Jets’ practice squad. Grupe opened the scoring with a field goal but hurt his knee making a tackle on the following kick-off. Punter Ethan Evans subsequently handled kicking duties, converting the extra point after Colby Parkinson’s touchdown to put Los Angeles ahead with 47 seconds left. Arizona still had time to answer through Ryland.
Both of the Cardinals’ victories this season have come at SoFi Stadium, following their week-one win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Arizona won only three games last season. For the Rams, the defeat followed an overtime loss to Buffalo the previous Monday, extending a difficult run in a division that also includes unbeaten San Francisco and defending champions Seattle.
Kansas City, meanwhile, beat the Chargers 22-6 to move to 5-0. Patrick Mahomes recorded his 100th regular-season victory in his 131st start, matching Tom Brady’s record. Kenneth Walker rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns, taking his league-leading total to 665 yards. BBC Sport reported that figure was a record for a player’s first five games with a new team. Minnesota also stood at 5-0, with San Francisco still awaiting its Monday-night game against Washington.
Houston closed the London series with a 34-31 victory over Jacksonville at Wembley, settled by a Ka’imi Fairbairn field goal. Jaguars receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter caught a touchdown and made an interception, both in the fourth quarter. He became the first player to achieve that combination in one game since Philadelphia’s Brian Dawkins in 2002. Jacksonville fell to 4-2, while Houston collected its second win.
Cleveland also won narrowly, beating Baltimore 13-10 after Derrick Henry’s fourth-quarter fumble helped turn the game. Audric Estime scored a touchdown before Andre Szmyt supplied the winning field goal. The Browns moved to 4-2 and led the AFC North on a tie-breaker, with Baltimore and Pittsburgh holding the same record.
