Ryan Hall retires at 38 after six Grand Final wins with Leeds Rhinos
Ryan Hall has announced his retirement after a 20-year rugby league career. The Leeds Rhinos winger leaves with six Grand Final wins and will take a commercial role at the club.

Ryan Hall has retired from rugby league at the age of 38, bringing a 20-year playing career to a close. Leeds Rhinos confirmed that his retirement takes immediate effect, while BBC Sport reported that the former England winger will remain with the club in a commercial role after his final season on the field.

Watch the highlights:

Hall's senior career began with Leeds in May 2007 and ultimately produced 358 tries across 540 appearances, according to BBC Sport. His honours with the Rhinos included six Grand Final victories and two Challenge Cups. He finishes with 274 Super League tries, placing him second on the competition's scoring list, seven behind Leigh winger Josh Charnley.

His career also took him to Australia and to another Super League club before he returned to Leeds. After leaving the Rhinos following the 2018 season, Hall made 11 NRL appearances for Sydney Roosters across two seasons without scoring a try. Hull KR brought him back to Super League for 2021, and he went on to register 62 tries in 102 appearances for the Robins.

Hall's last season at Leeds included 10 tries in 24 appearances during 2026, with the Rhinos finishing second. His final outing for the club was the play-off semi-final loss to Warrington at Headingley. Speaking to the club website, as reported by BBC Sport, Hall said he felt the moment had arrived to retire and that Leeds were well placed to give younger players their opportunity.

Head coach Brad Arthur praised Hall's sustained contribution at club and international level and said he was leaving on his own terms. Hall's England record stands at 39 tries in 45 appearances. He was also part of the England team that reached the 2017 World Cup final and finished as runners-up.

There is still a farewell appearance planned despite the end of his playing career. BBC Sport reported that Leeds intend for Hall to make a brief appearance in a January pre-season match against Hull FC as part of a testimonial. That occasion is separate from his move into a commercial position, which will keep him involved with the Rhinos after retirement.
