Russo rescues Arsenal draw as Manchester City beat London City Lionesses
Alessia Russo scored late as Arsenal drew 1-1 with Aston Villa, while Manchester City won 2-1 at London City Lionesses. Both games highlighted the gap between creating chances and converting them.

Arsenal needed an 85th-minute equaliser from Alessia Russo to draw 1-1 with Aston Villa on Sunday, while Manchester City beat London City Lionesses 2-1 in the Women's Super League. The results came despite Arsenal dominating their match and London City creating repeated opportunities against the defending champions, according to reports from the Guardian and BBC Sport.

Watch the highlights:

At Arsenal, Chasity Grant put Villa ahead in the 25th minute after receiving the ball from Lynn Wilms and finishing low into the corner. The Guardian reported that Villa then defended deep, leaving the home side searching for a way through. Russo eventually headed in Stina Blackstenius's cross at the far post to secure a point.

Arsenal finished with 28 shots to Villa's one, almost 65% possession and 56 touches inside the opposing penalty area against four. The draw followed wins over Tottenham and Benfica. The Guardian listed Liverpool away, Barcelona, London City and Lyonnes as Arsenal's next opponents, a demanding sequence after they failed to turn their attacking volume into victory.

At Hayes Lane, Khadija Shaw and Lauren Hemp scored for Manchester City as the visitors took all three points. BBC Sport reported that London City produced 24 shots, with six on target, but were unable to make their opportunities count. The hosts had been playing in the second tier only 18 months earlier and are now in their second WSL season.

London City manager Eder Maestre told the BBC that his side's performances were reaching the standard he wanted, although their results had not always reflected that progress. He pointed to Manchester City's greater experience in these matches and said his own players still needed to improve their composure when chances arrived.

Manchester City manager Andree Jeglertz praised the opposition's quality but stressed the importance of sustaining performances throughout a season. He told the BBC that competing at the top required teams to find different ways to win. Sunday's victory supplied another example: City finished with the points despite spending much of the afternoon facing pressure from London City.
