Robinson and Tongue seal England series win over Pakistan

England completed a series win over Pakistan with a match to spare on Sunday, beating the tourists by 194 runs in the second Test at Lord's. The Guardian's Ali Martin reported from the ground that England, after making 290 and 208, bowled Pakistan out for 110 and then 194 to close the match on the fourth day.

Ollie Robinson led the final-innings attack with 4-24, giving him match figures of 8-35. Josh Tongue added 3-46 and ended the contest when Mohammad Ali was caught behind, according to the Guardian report. The result gave England their first series victory since late 2024 and Joe Root his first as captain for more than five years.

Pakistan began the chase without Imam-ul-Haq, who was again absent because of a calf injury, leaving England nine wickets to take. Robinson and Jofra Archer quickly removed three batters for 14 runs in 43 balls, with Robinson dismissing Azan Awais and Abdullah Shafique before Archer accounted for Babar Azam.

Saud Shakeel and Shan Masood then steadied Pakistan either side of lunch. The Guardian reported that their stand was worth 97 runs in 23 overs, with Saud going on to make 97 before Tongue removed him during the lower-order push. Masood was out for 27 and Mohammad Rizwan for one after Root brought Robinson back into the attack at 111-3.

The match also included a notable performance from Pakistan seamer Mohammad Abbas, who took five wickets in England's second innings and earned a place on the Lord's honours board. But Pakistan's batting could not build enough resistance after conceding a large first-innings deficit.

For England, the immediate significance was the confirmed series win and another strong return from Robinson, whose summer comeback has produced 23 wickets at eight runs apiece, as reported by the Guardian. Tougher assignments are still ahead, but England left Lord's with the match and the series settled.
