Robinson and Archer put England in command against Pakistan at Lord's

England moved into a commanding position in the second Test against Pakistan after their seam attack dismissed the tourists for 110 at Lord's on Friday. BBC Sport reported that the hosts ended day two on 81-3 in their second innings, holding an overall lead of 261 runs with three days scheduled to remain.

England had earlier advanced from their overnight 248-9 to 290, with Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue extending their final-wicket partnership to 47. Jamie Smith's 61 and Jordan Cox's 55 were the main contributions in the innings, while Muhammad Abbas finished with 4-73 for Pakistan.

Pakistan's reply never developed after opener Imam-ul-Haq was ruled out of the innings with a calf injury. Azan Awais made 46, but he was the only Pakistan batter to pass 20 as the side was dismissed in fewer than 50 overs. The total left England with a first-innings advantage of 180.

Ollie Robinson led the home attack with 4-11, continuing a return that BBC Sport said has brought him 19 wickets in three matches this summer at an average of 8.84. Jofra Archer added 3-26, reaching 95mph during his opening spell, while Tongue claimed two wickets. Robinson removed Saud Shakeel and Muhammad Rizwan following successful lbw reviews before dismissing Awais with a short ball. Archer later bowled Ali Usman and Abbas.

England then lost Ben Duckett and first-innings half-centurion Cox inside the first 19 balls of their second innings, both to Khurram Shahzad. Emilio Gay and Joe Root steadied the innings with a 47-run stand, but Mohammad Ali trapped Root lbw for 24. Harry Brook successfully overturned an lbw decision from the next delivery after replays showed an inside edge, and Gay reached the close unbeaten on 30.

The match remains unfinished, and the weather could delay England's push for victory. BBC Sport said Saturday's forecast was poor enough to raise the possibility of a washout. England nevertheless have a sizeable cushion as they seek to convert their position into a win and secure the series.
