Robinson and Archer Put England 261 Runs Ahead at Lord's

England moved into a commanding position against Pakistan at Lord's after a dominant second day of the second Test. BBC Sport reported that the hosts dismissed Pakistan for 110 before reaching 81-3 in their second innings, giving them a lead of 261 runs at the close. England had earlier completed their first innings on 290.

Ollie Robinson returned figures of 4-11 and Jofra Archer took 3-26 as Pakistan struggled against England's four-man seam attack. Azan Awais made 46 and was the only Pakistan batter to pass 20, while opener Imam-ul-Haq was unable to play because of a calf injury. Josh Tongue claimed two wickets, with Gus Atkinson completing the pace quartet.

England began the day on 248-9, but Atkinson and Tongue added 42 runs before the final wicket fell. Their last-wicket partnership was worth 47 and lifted the total to 290, following half-centuries from Jamie Smith, who made 61, and Jordan Cox, who scored 55. Muhammad Abbas led Pakistan's bowling figures with 4-73.

Archer reached 95mph during his opening spell and initially had only Shan Masood's wicket to show for his pace. Robinson then removed Saud Shakeel and Muhammad Rizwan after successful lbw reviews and dismissed Awais with a short ball. Archer later bowled Ali Usman and Abbas as Pakistan's innings ended with England holding a first-innings advantage of 180.

Pakistan made an early response with the ball as England slipped to 13-2. Ben Duckett was caught at mid-off and Cox was lbw, both off Khurram Shahzad. Emilio Gay and Joe Root then put on 47 before Root was lbw to Mohammad Ali for 24. Harry Brook overturned an lbw decision on his first ball after a review showed an inside edge.

Gay reached stumps unbeaten on 30, with England well placed to press for the victory needed to secure the series. The size of the lead gives the hosts room to manage the remaining three days, although the BBC report noted a poor weather forecast for Saturday. Pakistan's highest total across their first three innings of the tour is 171, underlining the scale of the task facing the visitors when they next bat.
